Half Day Climb
The half day commonly meets from 8am-12pm, but can be done after work in the summer as well! This is a great option for a shorter day or if you are low on time. Crag days and fun family days are perfect half day options. Clear Creek ice climbs are also a good candidate for a half day objective.

PLEASE HELP - One of our past avy ed instructors is going through a very tough battle with cancer. @andrewplagens_extreme is an incredible guy - one of the kindest and most knowledgable humans we’ve had the pleasure of working with. He and his partner need help NOW. You can help by donating to the go fund me link in our bio.
Andrew was diagnosed with Stage IV colorectal cancer at age 29 in February of 2022. At this time, he and Liz were forced to drop their lives and move to Denver where they could receive proper care. Since then it has been a roller coaster ride of ups and downs in Andrew’s health, but this summer in 2023, the cancer began to win. The cancer has mestasisized from his colon and rectum into his liver, and is blooming throughout his bowels. In fact, he was forced to get an osteomy bag in June, and subsequently was admitted to the ICU for sepsis. Andrew is one week into immunotherapy, which is the last tactic available to fight the cancer. There is a 50/50 chance of this working, (which is the best odds we’ve heard yet!). Unfortunately, his liver is barely functioning, so he fills with fluid and needs to get drained more than once per week. He also is so weak that he is mostly wheelchair bound. Liz has to monitor him around the clock because he is so sick. Now is a crucial time in Andrew’s fight against cancer!! After losing another best friend to the mountains, Andrew’s health has taken a turn for the worse. His devoted girlfriend, Liz, has been forced to quit working in order to be his full-time caretaker. Please help these two continue the battle by donating money for their basic needs. Donate now before it's too late. ...
Inspiring day out! We got a call from a man who wanted to take his friend out climbing in Eldorado Canyon. Turns out Ben’s friend Roy is 73 years old and still climbing strong! Not only that, Roy is one of the highest ranked Daito Ryu Aiki Jujutsu practitioners outside of Japan. He is the first and only non-Japanese to earn a 7th Dan and the third scroll from the Hombu Dojo in Kitami, Japan. We’re not sure exactly what that means, but he is pretty much THE American jujutsu sensei. Check out a new book book about his life, “To Become a Living Art”. We hope to be half as fit, determined, and young at heart as Roy is in his 70’s. ❤️

Guides Day off! @danhunteroutside and @newtclimbsco couldn’t resist a perfect forecast in the alpine on Sunday. Rumors of a new-ish line on the Spearhead in Rocky Mountain National Park had the two leaving the trailhead at 3:30am. The early start was a good decision despite the forecast, as they were first on route and saw more climbers on the spearhead than Dan had ever seen before. Around 15 parties on the wall!
The Kingfisher is a sustained and beautiful line that weaves a path up the left edge of The Barb flake culminating with the dramatic Kingfisher Arete (one of the wildest pitches we’ve climbed in RMNP!) The climb connects naturally protected crack features with beautiful face climbing. The climbing is consistent in difficulty with 3 pitches of 5.11, 3 pitches of 5.10, and one pitch of 5.9.
Needless to say they had a blast. All that slab climbing in the south platte paid off! Newt is really progressing in his climbing and fitness, and Dan was surprised he felt confident on 5.11 terrain even though he hasn’t climbed outside for himself in months! (9 month old at home 👶)
🎶 inspired by Newt’s eclectic country playlist 🙂
